Ice fishing at Izaak Walton Preserve
I posted on my IG story asking for recommendations to add to my 30 b4 30 list and my friend Sara suggested to stand in the water and go fishing. I told her I have ice fishing on there and asked if she had been. She said no, but her boyfriend wanted to go and had done it before with a buddy. I invited myself along to check if off my list and then the plan was put in motion. I got a text from Anthony with a date, time, and location and said YES. So now I've been ice fishing and let me tell you, it was so. much. fun! I think it had a little to do with the crew I went with ;) and that I caught like 6 fish!! They were little bluegills of all shapes and colors. Everyone else had caught a bass! I didn't do that, but I was excited about my other fishies and that I caught anything at all!! I also got to drill my own hole with the hand crank auger that was pretty cool, and easier than I thought it was going to be. Also the fishing rods are so tiny and cute I loved it.

After you drill the hole, you have to scoop out the ice, so you can drop your line in. Peep the McDonalds breakfast sammy.

Drilling into the ice
This was actually a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. You just crank it and then one it gets stuck you've almost broken through. Then once you break through you plunge it up and down to get it out and then clean it up.

Such a fun day with lots of catches! Toes and fingertips were cold at the end, but would go again!

All you need for ice fishing is a bucket, gloves, warm socks and boots, hat, scarf, and snow pants. As long as friends have the fishing poles, bait, and other tools :)
